Sidney Gunst, Jr.
Founder
Creator & Visionary
We honor Innsbrook’s visionary developer, Sidney Gunst Jr., and strive to continue to develop the vision Sidney had for Innsbrook.
An excerpt from Legacy.com:
As an ambitious 28-year-old in 1979, Sidney became the driving force behind the creation of the 1,000-acre Innsbrook Corporate Center, which shaped the growth of western Henrico, transforming the region to a thriving business, commercial and residential district. By 1999, Innsbrook, with its trails, lakes and events, was the premier business address, with 23,000 people working in 100 buildings. “Ideas are fascinating to me,” Gunst said in a 2005 article. “They’re what I love most. I’m less interested, relatively speaking, in material things.”
His legendary inquisitiveness and tenacious competitiveness also fueled a host of hobbies, including karate, flying, biking and ping pong. His escapades included trekking Mt. Everest, competing in triathlons, including the Hawaii Ironman, white water kayaking, flying his single-engine plane across America and biking from coast to coast. Age was not slowing him down, having recently broken his collarbone and ribs while mountain biking. He revered fellow trailblazers, be they adventurers or business luminaries.
